My weekend's been pretty boring! So sian... nothing much going on... Went to school yesterday to read my textbooks... But ended up falling asleep instead! Sigh... I don't know why i'm so tired! And this morning i wanted to sleep some more! Goodness... I better snap out of it... Anyway, there's rarely anyone online nowadays... i wonder why... All mugging at home?? Hmnn... weird ah... Maybe i'm online at the wrong time...

haha... "make up posts" for my long absence... nothing much lah... except that i just changed carine's tagboard scheme... that's all... yup, hope it looks good... I probably won't be going online much till next friday cos i got E-clinics test coming up! sighsigh... anyway, i'm gonna get a webcam soon! So Carine, if U're reading this, maybe we can webcam each other! but it also depends on you lah... cos if U that side no cam also cannot... I'm getting a free one cos i signed on with singnet for another 2 years... haha... but my internet's the limited type.. 30hrs a month starting next month... cos i decided that unlimited's too much for me.. no point in wasting the money lah... but it also means that i can't maple at home anymore! Which doesn't make alot of difference to me, since i'm so tired from school (or should i say postings) anyway...

ok lah, gotta go bathe! :0)

(From Last Friday, May 20th) hi! I can't post cos my computer's still spoilt! The virus has been repaired but there's a problem with my internet! SIGH... One problem after another... Anyway, i saw a lumbar puncture being done today! Wah, quite scary.. i think it looks more scary than it being done on you... the needle's so long! luckily the patient didn't see it cos everything was done (literally) behind her back... haha... pardon the BAD pun! :)

(5th May) haha... U welcome... Wah, i just realised tt i haven't blogged in almost a month! Goodness... Been wanting to do it but alot of difficulties...

Hihi! *tadah* I'm back! Yupyup, after a long long long hiatus... (its almost a month since i last officially posted--although if you look at my tagboard you do realise that i've been trying to post)

So well, E-Clinics have come... and they'll be over in the blink of an eye! *wow* time really flies! I foresee myself posting less in future... Its really very tiring to be in clinics! Now i really know how derrick felt last year... After reaching home, eating my dinner and taking my bath, i fall asleep on the 1st line i read! Goodness... Now i know why its so hard to get doctors to continue reading and enriching themselves... Cos they're just too busy! Where got time to read! sigh sigh sigh... *it's a doctor's life*

Anyway, i've come a long convoluted way, but my com's finally fixed! Many thanks to One Mr Derrick Lian! :0) Before i went to China, there was a problem with my internet... i couldn't access the hotmail n blogger sites... then when i came home, i couldn't even open word! The internet was wonky but i could still go online... So i got someone to repair my com for me... then it came back fine... except that i couldn't go online! Sigh... We thought it was a problem with my modem, so we decided to go Singtel to get a new plan n modem, so that if i still had problems they can fix it for me... But the new modem couldn't work too! So i ended up calling the modem company... (it took me one whole week to call, cos by the time i was free the office was closed) but they were of NO help... Then derrick told me he knew what was the problem... so he came over today and got it fixed! Wow... I'm impressed!

Apparently the problem was due to the repair guy who replaced my xP home with xP professional... And it really wasn't my fault cos when he took my com i asked him if he wanted my xP home CD... and he said he didn't need it cos he had the CD at home... Sigh... Supposed to fix my com yet give me additional problems!

I have lots of things to type... but i can't remember them now! ARGH... I'll post again another time... (hopefully that's soon) but meanwhile i'll try to change Carine's tagboard colour...

Blue font! Why?? Cos its MONDAY! Monday blues... Sigh...

Aiya... I dunno why but i suddenly feel so SIAN! Maybe cos its monday... and i've got a whole new week ahead of me! (But i guess Monday's almost over... so i only have tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday left) Anyway, i'm in school still... we had a whole day of lectures...

There's this thing that's been bothering me for a long long long time... NEEDLESTICK injuries... I think that its a really scary thing... and i guess my fears we re-ignited once again when Prof Tambyah came in to talk to us about it... I'm sure that most of us are scared about it, and that we all want to prevent it, but then why does it still happen?

I guess sometimes the house officers are really tired and they kinda feel sleepy... then they end up poking themselves... and other times maybe its due to the carelessness of others... who leave sharps lying around... And there's always the uncooperative patient who jerks and then the needle that just pierced him ends up poking the healthcare worker...

Prof Tambyah showed us this Horror story about a nurse who was drawing blood from a HIV patient in the ICU... and he jerked his arm and she ended up being poked by the needle... and she became HIV positive! Oh dear.... Extremely BAD thing to hear about... And he also mentioned that an average of one medical student a year gets poked by an HIV needle...

But as Ah Ma tried to comfort me, she said that patients are usually cooperative... So i guess most of the time we can be CAREFUL and these horrible things won't happen!
So everyone, please take the following precautions:
1. Expose the needle for as short a time as possible. ie, only uncap the needle just before you're about to draw blood, and right after that, dispose of it PROPERLY in the Sharps bin.
2. Make sure that people around you are aware that you are holding a needle and that you don't poke them.
3. When you are using a sharp, don't get distracted by anyone. Finish the task at hand and dispose of the sharp before doing anything else.
4. DO NOT recap your needles, and if you do, use the one hand technique...
5. If you know someone is using a sharp, stand away from the person. Don't be an innocent Martyr.

Ok, i think that's about it... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be CAREFUL everyone! I hope that all of us are safe and sound...

I'm in school today for the Clinical Skills lab... I haven't been posting since i came back cos:
1. I've been real busy after coming back from China! Had to do 2nd hand booksale
2. My home computer's spoilt! Sigh... its so new! only 5 months old... and there's some major problem... Can't open email websites or go to blogger... Though i can open MSN... So i've been checking my email in school whenever i can lah... This is the main reason i guess...

But i'm also v tired after school everyday... It really takes alot to get used to clinics! And of course i'm still NOT adapted yet... I don't feel tired when i'm walking or standing around, but after i get home, take my bath and sit on the bed, i just fall asleep! Sigh... How to do any reading up like that??? Terrible... And weekends haven't been much help cos we had tutorial on saturday!

Sigh sigh sigh... but honestly, going to clinics has opened up my eyes... I get to see people from all walks of life, and all the patients are so different! So far most of the patients are alright, except for one old uncle who snapped at me and Ah Ma when we tried to talk to him... Others are a little blur and disoriented... so its really hard to talk to them! There was one man who was hard of hearing... so we couldn't talk to him cos if we did we would wake up the whole ward! But of course, there're the nice nice patients that just make your day... I really feel very grateful to them!

There are 2 patients that left particularly deep impressions on me... Both of them are suffering from renal failure, and have to undergo dialysis.. Its really different listening to their story on TV and seeing them in real life! By the way, neither of them are sponsored by NKF... One's by KDF and the other's on social welfare... What really amazed and touched me is their acceptance of their situation... Both of them are very chatty and open to sharing their problems... I can't really put my finger on what's touching about them, but i guess its their strength and bravery... Especially the patient who came in cos he had an infected graft in his arm... (its for dialysis) He had so many scars from previous operations! Yet he didn't seem fearful at all... Admirable...

When i see these patients, i suddenly feel so grateful for all that i have... I'm really fortunate to have a nice family, house and rather comfortable life... And i feel so sad for them, yet i can't really do much to help them... maybe i can set up a "needy patient fund" then we can raise funds and donate the money to these famillies... if there's no money, we can give them moral support! Some of them are lonely and it'll just be good if there's someone there with a listening ear...

I guess that's all i'm gonna blog about for now... Think i've already typed alot... I still have lots more to say! But no time... better try to go home earlier today... i've been reaching home late for the past couple of days already...
