Haha... Its been a harrowing past 3 weeks! Wow... they just totally flew by... and before i know it, the 3 weeks are over! I must say that a posting with emergency medicine is really a fulfilling one... and I learnt alot of stuff! The staff there are really nice and willing to teach! :) Especially Dr Tham... Wah, i admire her for her immense power man... She can do night duty and yet take us for a 3 hour tutorial in the evening! And yet she still speaks so clearly! Wah...

Sigh... I really have to train harder if I wanna survive my HO years... During the 2 night duties that we had (10pm to 7am) I was dozing off when there wasn't much to do.. and i slept so soundly that i didn't even know that the rest walked off! Oops...

Anyway, the posting got real exciting towards the end... I guess that's cos I finaly read up on some conditions and could apply my knowledge in better detail... and on the last day somehow there were suddenly so many emergency resus cases and it got real exciting! Like on ER.. haha... There was this old uncle who collapsed, and he came back after defibrillation! I think its moments like this when you feel that your job as an emergency physician is worth it... :)

The test was on Saturday! Wah, I had a really nice tester, but i still screwed up... Sigh... I must have appeared utterly brainless! Cos he asked me the difference between a bag valve mask and a non-rebreather mask, and i didn't know! I even said "Oh, yah... I never thought about that before..."

And I kept going on and on about how the BVM doesn't need an oxygen supply while the non-rebreather does... And he hinted to me by squeezing the BVM... So i stupidly said... "Oh, one you need to squeeze and the other you don't!" Sigh... Finally the answer hit me...

"Oh! You use the BVM when the patient cannot breathe on his own, whereas the non-rebreather is used when the patient is spontaneously breathing!"

Goodness... What a stupid idiot I am... Plus i couldn't really see the pneumothorax on CXR and needed tremendous hints... ARGH!!!!

haha... at least its over! :) Now we're on to family med! I hope i enjoy the posting! The doctor we're attached to seems quite nice! :) Hope all goes well...

Yup, that's it for now! Till next time! (Which is probably after the end of family med posting.. haha... I'm so slow and lazy... I haven't even uploaded my taiwan trip photos yet!)
