My Chiku Tree

My Chiku Tree has been a part of my garden ever since i can remember. When i was young, i used to wonder why the people who planted the tree didn't plant anything more useful, like a pear tree... (cos i like pears) Occasionally when my uncles and aunties came over they would pluck the fruit using ladders, and i tried it once or twice, but i never really got accustomed to the taste... So most of the fruit became food for the birds and bats in the area...

I still remember last time, the fruit has to be plucked...If it dropped on the ground, some white sticky latex will ooze out from the stem or a crack in the fruit... I haven't seen the white sticky latex for the past few years... I wonder why... Is it because the tree is maturing? Or is it a sign of something?

Throughout my whole life, I've always remembered my Chiku tree as a wonderful, great, big tree with nice dark leaves and lots of foliage. No matter how hard my dad tried to curb its exuberant growth, it never gave up... Plenty of room for lots of fruit, birds, and insects to live in! There were so many times when bees made their nests there, and my dad had to smoke them away when the nest got too big... And occasionally you see really nice beautiful birds (not the usual blackbird/crow but green birds) in the tree! And of course, the bats come around at night for their dinner as well...

There was once when my dad was chopping one of the branches and it fell on his car! Wah, big big dent... that was when i was 12 i think... and when i was about 5 or 6, there was this orange furry worm dangling down from one of the branches... I almost walked into it!

Throughout the years, my Chiku tree has given me many memories... Unknowingly, i've stood in its shade for 21 years!

Jia you tree! I hope you get well soon!

Wow... I haven't posted in almost a month!

Sigh... So sorry... i guess i've been really busy... I really wanted to post about my birthday ongoings... but oops... guess i've been caught up in a flurry of activity! Anyway, to sum it all up, it was really great and enjoyable! Thanks to everyone who came... U really made my day! (i'll try to upload the photos at a later date) And thank you so much for contributing to my "donate to cheesie's digicam fund" haha... I'll look around actively during christmas! ;) The sales are coming!

Anyway, my topic for today is:

Treasure everyday things... Just today i went out happily and returned only to find that my chiku tree somehow became lopsided... (its now like the leaning tower of pisa) and i'm really sad and upset... Just 2 days ago i was looking at the tree, cos there were these bats flying around it, and i actually managed to see a bat eating a chiku! Its really cool cos they hang themselves upside down around the chiku and munch slowly on it... The tree's been in my garden for as long as i can remember, and yet its the 1st time i see a bat eating a chiku! :)

Back to the main story... Its odd how things can just happen... The tree's been there for as long as i can remember, and occasionally i'll look at it and marvel at its wonderful growth... Its always been there, like a permanent fixture in my life... an everyday thing, like returning home at the end of the day...sometimes i even forget its there, cos i take it for granted... And yet, seeing it today, everything has changed! My little box has been shaken... My poor tree! I really don't know what has happened, but construction by my neighbour who's building a basement might have loosened the soil, weakening the tree's roots... and so it kinda lost its balance... Now its main branch is being supported by the boundary wall... and the main trunk is about 45 degrees with the ground... The roots can't be seen, so i guess there's still the chance that my tree is alright!

I really hope my tree is fine... I mean, its been there for so long, i'm sure it can brave the obstacle!!! (i really hope so) I'm really sad... :( Please pray for my tree...

Jia you tree! I'm sure you can pull through...
